Leather Cleaning in South Florida

Leather furniture cleaned in your home.

Sun through the windows, air conditioning running most of the year, and body oils working into the same three seats. Leather cracks because it loses its oils, and a household cleaner strips what is left.

How It Works

Leather Needs Its Oils

Leather is skin. It needs its oils to stay flexible, and harsh cleaning removes them, which is why an aggressive household product leaves a sofa looking clean and then cracking a year later. Protected leather and aniline leather are different materials: aniline is unfinished and absorbs almost anything, while protected leather has a coating on top. Check the manufacturer's tag, and tell us what you have when you book.

Leather Care in South Florida

Leather here deals with sun, air conditioning and humidity, often in the same room.

Sun Through the Windows

Afternoon sun dries leather and fades it, and the seat nearest the window ages first. Blinds or a slight move away from the glass help as much as any product.

Air Conditioning All Year

Dry, conditioned air draws moisture out of leather. A piece sitting under an AC vent dries out and cracks faster than one across the room.

Body Oil and Sunscreen

The places your head and arms rest collect oil and sunscreen, which darken and stiffen the leather over time. Regular cleaning takes those off before they set.

Know Your Leather Type

Aniline leather is unfinished and absorbs almost anything; protected leather has a coating on top. Check the tag and tell us when you book. Fabric pieces in the same room can be added: see couch and upholstery cleaning.

Guide

A Homeowner's Guide to Leather Furniture

Leather types, what to avoid, and how to keep it supple.

In this guide

  1. Aniline, Semi-Aniline and Protected Leather
  2. What Damages Leather
  3. Cleaning and Conditioning
  4. Between Cleanings

Aniline, Semi-Aniline and Protected Leather

Aniline leather is dyed but not coated, so it feels soft and absorbs spills almost immediately. Semi-aniline has a light coating. Protected, or pigmented, leather has a coated surface that resists stains and is the most common on family furniture. The tag or the maker's care guide usually says which you have.

What Damages Leather

Body oil and sunscreen darken the places you rest your head and arms. Sun and air conditioning dry it out. Household cleaners, alcohol and baby wipes strip the finish and the oils. Ink and dye transfer from jeans can set into lighter leathers.

Cleaning and Conditioning

Cleaning takes soil and oil off the surface. Conditioning puts moisture back so the leather stays flexible. Doing one without the other is half the job: conditioning over dirt seals the dirt in, and cleaning without conditioning leaves the leather drier than before.

Between Cleanings

Dust with a dry microfiber cloth, blot spills right away, keep pieces out of direct sun and away from AC vents, and condition about twice a year with a product made for your leather type.

Questions About Leather Cleaning

Anything else? Call (888) 700-4894 and the office will answer it.

Cracks that have gone through the finish are damage, and no cleaner or conditioner closes them. Keeping leather clean and conditioned slows new cracking, especially on pieces in direct sun or under an air conditioning vent.

Light aniline leather is the most absorbent and least forgiving, which is why it is worth knowing the leather type before anyone cleans it. Check the tag or the manufacturer's care guide, and tell us what you find when you book.

Every one to two years for a piece in daily use. Sooner if it sits in direct sun or under an air conditioning vent.

Yes. Mixed rooms are normal. Pick upholstery and leather in one request and the office schedules it.

Those are booked as an interior cleaning, which covers the seats and carpet where the vehicle is parked.

Dust it with a dry microfiber cloth, wipe with a cleaner made for your leather type, and condition it afterward. Skip household cleaners, which strip the oils leather needs.

A cleaner made for your type of leather, applied with a soft cloth, followed by a conditioner. Test it on a hidden spot first, especially on aniline leather.

It is made for wood. On leather furniture it can leave a residue and darken or dry the finish, so use a leather cleaner instead.

Household all-purpose cleaners, alcohol, ammonia, bleach, baby wipes and anything abrasive. They strip the oils and the finish that keep leather supple.
