What Carpet Cleaning Costs
Carpet is priced by area. An area is a room up to 300 square feet, a living and dining combination counts as two, and halls, baths and landings are priced separately, usually for less. Room sizes can vary by location, so the office confirms yours.
The price includes treating spots and moving basic furniture. Larger or delicate pieces such as pianos, electronics, china cabinets, beds and large dressers may stay where they are.

Sand Is Abrasive
Beach and pool sand tracked in on feet works down into the pile and grinds the fibers every time someone walks over it. That is why traffic lanes here go dull faster than the rest of the room. Vacuum often between cleanings and keep a mat at every door to the pool or the beach.
Humidity and Drying Time
Carpet typically dries in 8 to 24 hours, and humidity is the biggest reason it lands at the long end. Run the AC and ceiling fans after the clean, keep the protective blocks under furniture legs until everything is dry, and stay off it in outdoor shoes.
Pet Odor on Humid Days

Hot Water Extraction, and Why It Is the Method
Hot water extraction pumps hot water and cleaning solution into the carpet to release the soil deep in the fibers, then pulls the water and the dirt back out. It is often called steam cleaning because of the steam you see, but the water is not as hot as steam, which is easier on the fibers.
Stanley Steemer built its business on it. The company's truck-mounted, dual-wand cleaning system debuted in 1976, and the equipment is still made at its own facility in Dublin, Ohio.
Shampoo, Rentals and Dry Compounds
Shampoo that is not fully rinsed leaves a sticky residue, and residue pulls dirt back in, which is why some carpet looks worse a month after a cleaning. Rental machines usually have far less suction than a truck-mounted unit, so more water and soap stay in the carpet and it takes longer to dry.
Dry compounds and encapsulation are used for light maintenance, mostly on commercial carpet tile. They have a place, but they do not rinse the carpet.
Common South Florida Stains
Pet urine: blot, rinse with cool water, and never use heat or a steam iron, which can set it. Red wine and coffee: blot from the outside in, do not rub. Sunscreen and tanning oil: these are oily, so water alone spreads them; blot and leave the rest to a cleaning. Rust marks from pool furniture or plant pots: do not use bleach, which can make them permanent. Musty spots: dry the area and run the AC, and if the smell stays, look for moisture under the carpet.
No one can promise every stain will come out. Some substances permanently dye the fibers, and the age and type of carpet matter, so point stains out when you book.
How Often to Clean Carpet
Homes with pets, kids or heavy traffic: every 6 to 12 months. Most other homes: every 12 to 18 months. Mohawk's carpet warranties require a professional cleaning at least every 18 months, with proof, so keep the receipt.
Carpet Beetles in Florida
Carpet beetle larvae feed on wool, pet hair, lint and crumbs, usually along baseboards and under furniture. Vacuuming and a deep clean remove larvae, eggs and the debris they feed on where they reach. Cleaning is not pest control, though: for an active infestation, call an exterminator first, then clean carpet, rugs and upholstery.
Making a Clean Last
Keep mats at every door, vacuum traffic areas twice a week, and blot spills right away. Protector shields fibers from dry soil and spills and gives you more time to get to a spot; carpet makers recommend reapplying it about once a year.
